How teachers can tackle bullying

How teachers can prevent bullying

Bullying has become one of the biggest issues among students as of late, as many have resorted to extreme measures to put a stop to the torment. One of the main people who can avoid this type of behavior are the teachers, as they see what children are doing while they are not at home.

It is important for teachers to stop bullying immediately by standing between the victim and the bully, and talking to them both individually after they calm down. Additionally, educators need to support the bullied child and offer guidance to the bystanders, so they could possibly step in when the teacher is not around. Teachers can follow up with both the bullied student and the bully to ensure the behavior has stopped.

It is important teachers do not refer to bullying as conflict or vice versa. For instance, calling the issue a conflict may downplay the negative behavior, when it is actually a serious form of victimization. It is also a good idea to avoid peer mediation, as the bullied very rarely wants to be in the same room as their tormentor.
