Susan Boyle has topped the UK's album charts for the third time in her short career to date – setting a new record in the process.

The Scottish singer – who rose to fame following her stunning appearance on ITV1 talent show Britain's Got Talent – has seen her latest collection entitled Someone to Watch Over Me sail straight to the chart summit.

In doing so, Boyle – who is affectionately known as SuBo – became the first female artist to secure a hat-trick of number one albums in less than two years.

She managed to fend off tough competition from Florence and the Machine, Michael Buble and X Factor star Cher Lloyd to reach the top.

On hearing the news of her triumph, the popular songstress said she was "completely overwhelmed".

"One thing is for sure – I'll be cracking open the champagne tonight and celebrating. This is just wonderful. Wow," she remarked.

Boyle's memorable first audition on Britain's Got Talent has attracted more than 300 million YouTube hits to date.
