Job outlook for teens this summer positive

Teens will see better job market this summer

Summertime is here, and some teens may be interested in getting a job for the next few months in order to save up for a car, college tuition or just some new clothes. Those who are looking for a summer job may be in luck, as the job outlook for teens is much better than recent years.

A recent study showed a rebound since 2010, when teen hiring hit is lowest point since 1949 {with just 960,000 jobs}. The figure was up to 1.08 million in 2011, and it is expected to go up to 1.2 million this summer.

"Companies are doing better and have more room to hire teens. It's not a breakout year, but there’s steady improvement in the job market and teens will get their share of that," said John Challenger, CEO of Challenger, Gray & Christmas Inc. in Chicago, which issued the survey.

However, teens should not procrastinate. Once their school year ends – or even before – they should be landing a job for the summer months.
