The end of school is here for the girls at Colleen and Gordie Howe Middle School in Vancouver, but they still have one more assignment they want to complete. Girls from the school have signed a petition about the dress code, according to The Vancouver Sun.
The 73 girls agreed the school was too harsh with their dress code, and they are hoping their petition will turn it around. One 13-year-old decided to sign after she was told she couldn't wear shorts, even though she had leggings under them. However, administrators will likely not budge.
"Administrators are not trying to be unreasonable and we're dealing with kids in grades six to eight," Dave Stephen, school's spokesperson, told the news source. "We acknowledge students have the right to put petitions forward, but as society in general, you don't always get what you'd like. The [dress code] guidelines are there to promote a reasonable learning and work environment."
A dress code or uniform policies have always been hot button issue. The list of pros and cons for school uniforms is quite lengthy, and it doesn't seem as though the debate will be settled anytime soon.
